Leafleting at a supermarket is a great way to support Council Districts. We hand out flyers, talk to our neighbors, sign up more supporters. It’s fun. It’s easy and you will make a difference. Come get involved. Change is hard and we need your help to make it happen.
Can’t make this event? Look for others or let Carol Schlitt know of a time and place that would work well for you.

Leafleting events are crucial to our effort:
- They raise our visibility among voters. People see you taking a stand and that lends credence to the effort.
- They enable us to educate residents and spread the word about our campaign. By handing out flyers, we get out more information. Even if people don’t read the flyer, it plants a seed in their consciousness.
- They enable us to talk to more residents. People will stop to talk with you. That simple conversation enables the resident to learn more about the issues and enables us to learn more about what concerns residents.
- They enable us to sign up more supporters and residents. As this campaign develops and particularly as we approach the actual vote, we will need the contact information for as many supporters as possible.
Here are very simple instructions on how to lead a leafleting event:
1. Pick a date and time and location: Choose a spot with a lot of foot traffic. Supermarkets make great sites as do downtown areas and busy strip malls. But you can also do it at local events: PTA meetings, craft fairs, etc. You can do it as long as you like, but we find that 1 1/2 to 2 hours works best.
2. Let Others Know about the Event: Send an email to and we’ll post it on the web site and include it in the next update email. You can also post it on Facebook.
3. Prepare Your Materials: You will need a supply of fliers and signup sheets. You may also want some clip boards to hold the signup sheets.
4. Show Up and Enjoy: Position yourself in such a way that you are highly visible but not getting in anyone’s way. Offer to hand people a flyer and see if they want to talk. You will come up with your own approach and your own patter. You might try saying, “Hello, I’m with a non-partisan group that wants to bring representative government to Huntington” and then try to hand the person the flyer.
5. Sign up New Supporters and Volunteers: For those people who show interest, see if you can get them to sign up as supporters. We will then send them email updates. If they do not want to sign up, you can direct them to the web site.
6. Send in Your Sign up Sheets: After the event, please send in your signup sheet information. You can email it to info@ConcernedCitizensofHuntington.com.
Leafleting events are a great way to get involved and make a difference. They are easy to do and critical to our success. It is the classic grassroots, citizen activist activity. Thank you for your help and support
